Who this is for
Some signings do not need anyone to be in the same room. Washington permits remote online notarization, where identity is verified electronically and the signing takes place in a recorded video session.
This is the right service if you are out of the area, short on time, working across time zones, or simply would rather not arrange a visit, and if the party receiving your document accepts a remote online notarization. That last point is worth confirming before you book.

When It Helps
Remote online notarization removes the logistics from the appointment. There is no drive, no meeting point, and no mobile travel fee, just a scheduled session you join from a phone, tablet, or computer.
It suits out-of-state signers, tight timelines, mobility limits, and anyone who would simply rather not coordinate an in-person visit.
What You Need
A phone, tablet, or computer with a working camera, microphone, and stable internet.
An unexpired government-issued photo ID for the electronic verification step.
Send it ahead so it can be prepared for signing during the session.
Somewhere you can see and hear clearly for the length of the session.
Who can be verified for a remote session. A remote online notarization has two identity checks built into it, and both have to pass before the session can go ahead. The platform first runs credential analysis on your photo ID, so it needs to be a current, undamaged, government-issued ID that reads clearly on camera. It then asks you a short set of knowledge-based authentication questions drawn from United States public and credit records.
That second step is the one that occasionally stops people. Signers who have recently arrived in the country, who hold a foreign ID, who have very little United States credit history, or who have a security freeze on their credit file may not be able to clear it. Nothing is wasted if that happens. Tell us and we will come to you for a traditional in-person notarization instead, often the same day. You are only charged for the appointment that actually takes place.
Not every document can be notarized remotely. Some receiving parties, counties, and institutions still require a traditional in-person notarization. Check with whoever is receiving your document before booking a remote session, and if in doubt, we can meet in person instead.
Your money, before you commit
Washington caps the notarial act itself at $15 for a traditional or electronic in-person notarization, and $25 for a remote online notarial act. Travel and scheduling fees are separate line items, disclosed and agreed in advance. Every figure is published on the pricing page.

Bring your current, government-issued photo ID and the complete document, unsigned. Washington notaries must witness the signature, so please do not sign ahead of time. If the document names additional signers or witnesses, they need to attend as well.
